General overview of HydroponicsHydroponics is a technology for growing plants in nutrient solutions such as water and fertilizers with or without the use of artificial mediums like sand, gravel, and sawdust to provide mechanical support. Hydroponics is a fast, cheap, and efficient way to grow plants. There are six hydroponic systems. One of which we had to chose. We chose to use the wick system, the simplest of them all. The wick system is a passing system, which means it has no moving parts. The nutrient solution is released into the grow tray through a wicking material, such as felt. There are several different growing mediums that can be used in this hydroponic system, so we chose gravel. This system is cheap, simple, and effective.
